A perfect way to have a break from city life! You will love what mother nature has done to create Wave Rock and the surrounding area. You will pass through wonderful countryside during the day.

  • Visit the majestic Wave Rock and explore its surrounds
  • See how working sheep dogs are honoured at the Dog Cemetery
  • Be in awe at the sight of the Hippo’s Yawn and the Humps
  • Enjoy the beauty of Western Australian wildflowers if you travel while they are in bloom

For a truly unique experience, this tour visiting Wave Rock and surrounds can’t be beat. See the mighty wave, the Hippo’s Yawn, visit a dog cemetery and photograph some spectacular wildflowers.

With pickup locations throughout Perth, you’ll meet your friendly tour guide and fellow travellers at either your Perth / Northbridge accommodation at 6:40 am (by arrangement) or at Perth’s Wellington Tourist Coach Stand (the green bus shelter on the corner of Wellington and Queen Streets) at 6:45 am.

Heading east out of Perth, you’ll experience the transformation of the landscape as it shifts from the hustle and bustle of the city to gorgeous farmlands and natural countryside. Your first stop of the day will be the historic town of York. While here, you’ll enjoy a delicious morning tea, before having a small amount of free time in order to explore the town, which was the first township to be founded in the Avon Valley.

Your next destination will be the unique and interesting Dog Cemetery, which is a tribute to the working sheep dogs of Australia. You’ll then arrive in Hyden for a visit to the Hippo’s Yawn – an amazing example of Mother Nature imitating life as this rock formation resembles the gaping yawn of a hippopotamus. Also in Hyden, you will visit the Wildflower Shop, where you’ll indulge in a mouth-watering boxed picnic lunch and have time to relax in lovely surroundings.

You’ll then arrive at the stunning Wave Rock – an imposing 14-metre-high and 110-metre-long rock formation that resembles a huge wave. This granite marvel of nature is thought to be around 27 million years old and characterised by its colourful stripes of yellow, red and grey. You’ll also see the nearby Gnamma Holes – a series of rock basins fed by underground water.

After seeing Wave Rock, you’ll stop to see the Humps and Mulka's Cave. The Humps is another granite structure in the form of a giant ‘hump’, seemingly quite alien compared to its surroundings. Within the Humps, you’ll be able to enter Mulka’s Cave, which runs below this bulky wonder.

As you begin your return to Perth via an alternate route, you’ll stop over at the small town of Babakin, where you will delight in a delicious afternoon tea. For tours that run through the wildflower season, you will stop to see some of these beautiful blooms, considered some of the most beautiful in the world. At the end of your journey, you’ll be returned to your original pickup location in Perth, arriving at around 6 pm.

NOTE: due to being a natural seasonal phenomenon, we cannot guarantee you will see wildflowers.
