The Atherton Tablelands has such spectacular scenery, nature will surprise you. Our tour is the perfect way to discover it.
Departing from Cairns, we head south passing the Walsh's Pyramid mountain one of the largest naturally formed Pyramids in the world, here we will stop for a photo before starting our journey up the World Heritage listed Gillies Highway climbing 730 metres above sea level into the amazing Atherton Tablelands. Along the way, you will view spectacular scenery with a photo opportunity at Heales lookout. This stunning lookout overlooks the breathtaking Goldsbourgh Valley and beyond to the Great Dividing Range, Australia's longest range system.
Our first touring stop is the beautiful Lake Barrine Crater Lake National Park.
After re boarding the bus, we then travel through extensive beef, dairy, sugar cane & other diverse types of farming areas & small country villages.
Next stop is The Curtain Fig Tree, an amazing feat of nature reaching 45+ metres up into the tropical rainforest canopy. This is a boardwalk with plenty of time for photographs of the 600-800-year-old epiphyte.
After a 30 minute drive through the Malanda dairy lands, we arrive at the Millaa Millaa Falls - with the option of swimming under the cool waters falling 20 metres over an ancient volcanic lava flow from over 1 million years ago.
We then descend from the Tablelands down the Palmerstone Highway through sugar cane & banana fields to the coastal town of Innisfail.
On arrival at Innisfail, you will have free time to grab some lunch (not included, but you can purchase on the day if required)
Paronella Park is the next destination with a guided tour in English, Chinese or Japanese of the extensive National Trust Gardens. We spend approximately two hours here. If passengers are requiring more time, please feel free to approach your driver to arrange for this. This is where you will learn of Jose Paronella's wonderful achievements & His colourful history of how he built his Spanish Castle in the rainforest.
After being inspired by Paronella Park, we head north back towards Cairns stopping at a local banana farm where you can purchase cheap bananas, papaya & homegrown, homemade chocolate.
From here we continue our journey back to Cairns passing Queensland's two highest mountains, Mt Bartle Frere (1,622 metres) and Mt Bellender Ker (1,593 metres); these spectacular mountains are the backdrop of Australia's wettest town called Babinda with an annual rainfall total of 4,200mm.
From Babinda we head back towards Cairns & return you to your accommodation.
