With selected Fremantle accommodation pickups, or the option of meeting at B Shed, Victoria Quay, Fremantle for a 9:30 am departure, you’ll hop aboard your Ferry, and head towards Rottnest Island. The ferries used for the short trip across the ocean have been specially designed for the local conditions, meaning you’ll feel secure and comfortable along this attractive sea course.
Once on Rottnest Island, collect your bike as your disembark the ferry, and if you've chosen to hire snorkel gear (add-on in booking form) you can pick this up too.
The island is locally famed for its amazing snorkelling sites, full of a variety of spectacular sea life. Some of the recommended diving areas include Kitson Point, the Parker Point Promontory, the West End or North Point, where visibility is at a maximum and plenty of sea life and thriving limestone coral reefs in amongst the shipwrecks and calm bays. Check out the Visitor Information Centre as you arrive to collect some information on cycle maps as well as snorkelling maps.
Once you start your self-guided bike tour of the island and its 63 gorgeous beaches and bays, you’ll realise just how much this amazing little place has to offer. There’s a number of historical locations, including military relics, old buildings and a museum to learn about it all. There are lots of scenic sites, such as Lomas Cottage, the Pilot Boat House and Oliver Hill to take a look at. The West End boardwalk is a fantastic spot for taking a stroll on – offering a vantage point to see the lush flora and hidden fauna – maybe including a quokka or two.
You can throw in a fishing line and try to catch your lunch, or just enjoy a quiet picnic under some cool trees lining the beach, before jumping in for a swim. When you’ve decided you have had enough for one day (if that’s even a possibility), you can head back to the jetty, drop off your bike and any other gear that you hired, and catch the ferry back to the mainland, which returns to Fremantle at around 5:00pm.
