This impeccably planned tour takes you through the foothills of Adelaide to Hahndorf - Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement. Prepare to indulge your senses with this magnificently comprehensive Barossa and Hahndorf highlights tour to familiarise yourself with the world’s most celebrated wine regions.
With a courtesy pick-up and drop-off service from select CBD hotels, or the Adelaide Central Bus Station, you’ll begin your journey at around 9am. Float through Adelaide towards the globally celebrated Barossa wine region. Escape the bustle of city life, as you drive through the breathtaking vineyards of South Australia’s finest wine region. Start off your tour at the multiple awarded Jacob’s Creek Visitors Centre, where you will get to sample on some of their most famous wines and tour the surrounding vineyards. Relish your morning cup of tea as you overlook the magnificent beauty of the surrounding vineyards.
After you leave Jacob’s Creek Visitor Centre, head up to Mengler Hill Lookout for panoramic views over Barossa Valley. Don’t forget to take out your camera for some unforgettable shots. Next, you’ll enter into Saltram Wine Estate at Angaston, where you’ll learn about the 150-year history of this winery and get to sample on some of the highest quality wines in the world from its fantastic cellar door.
Once you’ve finished your unforgettable wine tasting experience, you’ll take a trip to the South Australian Company store for a wonderful lunch that will delight your palate. Using local ingredients and traditional cooking that is distinct to the Barossa region, you will relish a delectable two-course meal, which includes a tasting plate. Choose from delicious dishes like Kangaroo and Shiraz pie, salt and pepper squid, roast chicken, lamb shanks or Schulz Butcher Bratwurst. You will also get to enjoy tasting the wine of two boutique wineries from the Barossa.
In the afternoon, you will glide through the scenic Adelaide Hills with a small stopover at the Herbig Family Tree at Springton. Indulge in the enchanting history of this family, where a hollow tree trunk was home to Friedrich and Caroline Herbig and their children until 1860.
Once you arrive at Hahndorf, Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement, you have free time to explore the main street with multiple shops and art galleries. If you simply want some time to relax, unwind at any of the local pubs where you can sample on some local German beers. Your tour will return you to your pick-up location at around 5:15pm.
