Depart Strahan Wharf for Hell's Gates, the narrow-channel entrance to Macquarie Harbour, before passing ocean trout and Atlantic salmon farms enroute to Sarah Island.
Join an hour-long guided tour of the island which conveys a keen appreciation of the harsh conditions at what was Tasmania's first and perhaps most notorious penal outpost.
From Sarah Island travel into the majestic Gordon River, gliding deep into the ancient rainforests of the World Heritage Area to the boardwalk of Heritage Landing.
Disembark once again for a stroll through the hushed, lichen-covered rainforest and one of its oldest inhabitants - a 2000-year-old Huon Pine.
The whole adventure is completed by engaging on-board commentary on the area's human history, ecology and geology – a commentary enriched with anecdotes from the Grining family’s own experiences from more than a century of cruising this famous river.
